Community Market at Happy Acres, Fridays, 3-6 p.m.

The Community Market at Happy Acres launched last week, and the plan is to open the outdoor market and the Hall every Friday through the fall. If you are on Facebook, please check the new page there, "Community Market at Happy Acres." Your reactions and suggestions are welcome there. For more details you can also call the Hall, 394-2363.

Since last fall, supporters of Happy Acres have been planning to hold a seasonal weekly market. Friday afternoon was chosen as a day that is not hosting other markets, and as a time when many people are heading home or up to camp via Rt. 16. We hope to include supper and evening entertainment as this idea grows. Please check our web page (here) for updates, and let us know if you want to be involved through selling at the market or other support for this effort. Thank You Everyone!

Documenting Maine's State-Owned Landfill

Documenting Maine's State-Owned Landfill: How We Got Here, Where We're Headed

Are you concerned about issues such as the expansion of the Juniper Ridge Landfill, the proposed Fiberight facility in Hampden, and the potential closing of the Penobscot Energy (PERC) plant in Orrington? Are you interested in working toward creating a more sustainable or even zero-waste future for Maine?

Then please consider stopping by an informal sharing-and-learning event on the history and future of waste management in Maine. This event is free and open to the public.

Since 2003 when the West Old Town/Juniper Ridge Landfill was sited by legislative action for the purpose of 'saving' the paper mill in Old Town, many local citizens have worked to protect our local communities while trying to share a vision of appropriate and sustainable waste management in our region and in Maine. This event will collect together in one place the many public documents, hearings transcripts, audio and video records of numerous meetings, news articles, research reports and other essential materials along with the people who have collected them. We will be assembling a full record of waste advocacy and policy over the past 20 years, a timeline of how waste policies have affected our region will be assembled.

Event Schedule, Friday July 29 - Saturday July 30

Friday, 4 p.m. - Official opening of the event, assembly of collected waste documents, review of goals

Friday, 5:30-6:30 p.m. - Pot luck / shared supper

Friday, 6:30 - 8 p.m. - Open mic and structured discussion of the most important issues related to waste management in our region

Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Continuation of compiling documents, and assembling of a 'timeline' of the most important events in the past dozen years of waste advocacy

Saturday, 3-4 p.m. - Event wrap-up and next action steps for appropriate and sustainable waste management advocacy in Maine

Call Paul Schroeder for details, 207-907-0906.

We hope you will consider attending this event at such an important moment for Maine's trash future. Thanks!
